          On Thursday, a Special Mumbai Court extended the ED custody of Sanjay Raut in the Patra Chawl Scam case till August 8.

          Special Judge MG Deshpande remarked that the agency had made remarkable progress in the case.

          However, the court rejected the intervention application filed by witness Swapna Patakar stating she was threatened by Raut.

          As per the Court, Patakar couldn’t justify how the said application was tenable u.s 176 CrPC and remarked that if threats have been issued then they can approach the authorities.

          Background:

          In this case, the ED is investigating an alleged violation o the PMLA ( Prevention of Money Laundering Act) of 2002 regarding certain irregularities in the redevelopment of the Patra Chawl by the Huru Ashish Construction Company which is the subsidiary of the HDIL (Housing Development and Infrastructure Ltd).
