heera: Heera Gold Scam: Only 3% Victims Claim Money | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: Serious Fraud Investigation Office that began verification of claimants in the Heera gold scam found only 3% of them coming forward seeking return of their money. SFIO, on April 12, released the list of 6,023 depositors who filed their claims.
Of 1.72 lakh depositors who invested Rs 5,600 crore in the Heera gold scheme, only 6,023 came forward claiming Rs 317 crore.
Nowhera Sheik, the promoter of Heera Group, was accused of collecting deposits in a gold ponzi scheme that was spread over Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala.
SFIO identified around 1,449 deficient claims worth Rs 69 crore. The deficiency includes multiple claims for the same deposit. The agency also identified 4,574 claims ‘in order’ worth Rs 248 crore. However, they have to be finally verified. So far, only 507 claims are verified, worth around Rs 30 crore.
SFIO in a notice to investors said, “Based on Supreme Court orders on 28 October 2021, SFIO asked interested investors of Heera Group of Companies who want their money back, to file their claims, in the format of affidavit along with the copies of supporting documents duly notarized. Responding to these, investors of Heera Group of Companies across India have filed their claims.”
It added, “Following the directions of the Supreme Court, SFIO engaged a Chartered Accountant firm for verification of investor claims. The CA firm after due verification of investors claims submitted its first report on March 12, 2022,…
