Woman arrested for OVI after driving into a ditch: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

A witness called the Westlake Police Department at 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 18 to report a vehicle had driven into a ditch on Canterbury between Hilliard and Detroit.

Officers arrived and found that the female driver had missed a driveway before becoming stuck in the ditch. Officers administered field sobriety tests to the 43-year-old driver from Westlake. She admitted that she probably should not have been driving.

Officers arrested the woman for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and took her to the Westlake jail. A breath test indicated her blood alcohol level was 3½ times the legal limit, according to a police statement. She was charged with OVI, prohibited breath alcohol content, and failure to control. She then was released to a sober person.

Suspected narcotics: Sperry Drive

An officer at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 18 spotted an unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Super 8 Motel on Sperry Drive.

The car caught his eye because, despite the rain, the windows were down. The officer also noticed the keys were inside the car. In speaking with the people associated with the vehicle, officers found that a 43-year-old Elyria man was wanted on warrants from the Cleveland Police Department for aggravated assault and from the Ohio Highway Patrol on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Officers also found two firearms in the hotel room.
