Sault Police Warn of Yet Another Local Scam

Recently officers received a report of fraudsters scamming a significant amount of money from a senior citizen.

In this incident, someone called a senior citizen, claiming to be their grandchild and asking for money to get out of trouble. Another person gets on the phone, claims to be the grandchild’s lawyer, and states they need $10,000.

A fraudster then went to the victim’s home to collect approximately $10,000.

Please remember, never share personal information with someone you do not know over the phone. You are not obligated to share your information with others. Do not be shy about asking the person on the phone questions about why they are requesting money or personal information.

If you have second thoughts, end the communication. It is not rude, it is cautious. Always protect yourself and your personal information.

If you ever have any concerns about a potential scam or fraudulent activity, please contact police by calling 705-949-6300.
