PSC builds online scams awareness

PEOPLE System Consultancy Sdn Bhd (PSC) recently launched a financial intelligence programme in collaboration with Malaysia’s Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency (AKPK) to spread awareness and information on online scams.

Focusing on financial literacy, the programme targeted some 20,000 college and university students as the youth is an easier target for scams due to their eagerness in exploring new opportunities and are more likely to be unaware of online safety.

Since 2017, Malaysians have suffered losses amounting to about RM3.3 billion due to online scams.

Based on police statistics, a total of 98,607 cybercrime cases were reported involving scams, of which 23,011 were e-commerce followed by loan scams (21,008) and investment scams (6,273).

Based on the latest statistics from the Malaysian Department of Insolvency, individuals between the ages of 25 and 34 years were the most reported for bankruptcy. 

Through PSC’s financial literacy programme, modules provided included Money Intelligence, which utilises gamification and experiential learning techniques to ensure the participants encounter and learn up-to-date, quality and goal-focused financial concepts in a light and fun manner.

It trained participants to make well-informed financial decisions. 

The modules also highlight cybercrimes such as fraud, scams, data phishing and data intrusion which are heavily prevalent in a fast-paced and technology-heavy era.
