Ludhiana: A man has lost Rs 3.60 Lakh to online fraudsters who had approached him on the pretext of availing a lottery worth Rs 25 Lakh. The accused had asked the accused to pay Rs 20,000 as GST for availing the lottery.
The victim has been identified as Jagdishpreet Singh, 45, of Star Colony, Gill Road. The complainant, Jagdishpreet Singh, stated that he received a call from an unknown number who said that he has won a lottery worth Rs 25 Lakh. The accused said that he will have to make payment of Rs 20,000 as GST over the lottery. The victim agreed to make the payment and while doing that, the accused withdrew Rs 3.60 Lakh from his account.
Thereafter, he immediately got his bank account frozen and lodged a complaint with the police. Inspector Jatinder Singh, in-charge Cyber Cell-II of Ludhiana police, said that the accused at first convinced the victim that he had won a lottery. Thereafter, the accused got his bank details saying that they will transfer the money into his account. After getting his details, the accused sent him a barcode to scan for paying GST. As soon as Jagdishpreet scanned the barcode, he lost Rs 3.60 Lakh in three transactions.
The inspector added that the police tracked the bank account to which the money was further transferred. The police, on the basis of the enquiry, identified the accused as Sudam Hussain of Bihar, Lovepreet Singh of Jalandhar, Nusaad Ansari of Bihar, Raju Beta of Muzaffarnagar and Suwkhjinder Singh of Jalandhar, and they were…
