San Antonio police say some parking meters in the city had stickers with fraudulent QR codes that directed parking patrons’ payments to a bogus vendor.

The city of San Antonio is warning visitors about a new scam targeting parking meters.

Stickers with a fraudulent QR code — a type of barcode often meant to be read by smartphones — were found on public parking meters. The QR code linked people to a website that directed parking patrons’ payments to a bogus vendor, San Antonio police tweeted.

Officials did not say where the fraudulent QR code stickers were found.

Police advise that people who believe they were victims of credit card breaches resulting from such parking meter payments should file a report and notify the applicable credit card company immediately.
