The Estevan Police Service reported a new scam that they received calls about over the weekend.
Const. Don Dechief said scammers are sending “inappropriate photos” to people, and asking for them to send photos back.
Should a person send a photo back, the scammer threatens to post the photos online if they aren’t paid a sum of money.
“Once an image is posted online anywhere, it’s there forever. That’s one that’s been coming up quite a bit lately. The scammers have been somewhat successful in that one.”
Dechief said there are a variety of scams going around.
“The ability to investigate those matters is very difficult, if not impossible, as the scams predominately originate outside of Canada.”
