In today’s world, almost everyone uses their phone as a resource. For Amanda Dalnodar, it was an easy way to find a contractor to remodel parts of her home.
With just a few sentences and a click, she posted her request on an app, never thinking about what could happen.
“I never thought that he has done this to people before that this is part of his scam,” she said.
Scammers prey on the unsuspecting.
“He’s the one that was that said he could provide an estimate and said he’s available for work right away,” Dalnodar said as she described the person that messaged her on the app.
Dalnodar said the man came over to the house to look at the staircase and gave an estimate and left, then requested a deposit before he could begin the process.
“After I sent him the money, he started making excuses as to why he couldn’t come over,” she said.
