A 72-year-old Greeley woman is seeking restitution from her 47-year-old neighbor who she says conned her out of a large sum of money after promising to fix her vehicle.
The neighbor, the woman later learned, has an extensive criminal history of scamming people in other states.
Mary Walsh filed a small courts claim against Victor Urbina last month after and he failed to fully fix her vehicle in a timely manner for a sum of $2,500, according to court records.
In November, Walsh gave Urbina $1,700 to fix her heater, replace the battery, change the oil, install an oil and air filter, flush the radiator and add antifreeze coolant. In addition, Urbina allegedly reported to Walsh that she needed to have her head gasket replaced, new bolts put in and have the heads resurfaced.
The following day, Walsh gave Urbina an additional $800 after he texted her begging for more money because his mother fell ill and was hospitalized in El Paso.
After consistently providing her with excuses for the delay, Urbina returned the car five months later with many of the repairs incomplete — the heater, oil, battery and the radiator had no changes — Walsh indicated in her claim. The vehicle’s dashboard was dismantled, and parts were missing. A car cover had also gone missing.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office delivered Walsh’s claim to Urbina and took him into custody at the Weld County Jail on May 26, according to an affidavit of service. He has since been transferred to another jail…
