New Delhi: As police investigate a “rice-puller” scam as a possible reason for the mass suicide of nine members of a family in
Sangli, dozens reports of similar scams are being reported over the past few months across
India, including in the Indian capital New Delhi, reported TOI.
Scammers approach gullible people and tell them about these “rice puller” machines which they promise are being bought and will be bought in the future by space agencies including
NASA. As the name suggests, the machine they claim can attract grains.
Tall promises are made based on impossible science, using
jargon like that machine is made of ‘magic’ metals, iridium, radium, etc, with radioactive properties. The scammers claim that these machines will soon be bought by NASA or some other global space agency soon for worth thousands of crores of rupees.
They use forged documents and identity cards to pull off their scam. Sometimes it’s just a radioactive bar, in some other cases, it is claimed as a rare metal worth thousands of crores.
