A 44-year-old Dearborn Heights woman who paid $1,800 in processing fees, using gift cards, for a $5,000 loan, discovered she had been defrauded when the loan checks deposited into her account were rejected due to insufficient funds.
The victim, who filed a police report Aug. 18, said she thought the loan, which she applied for by phone a week earlier, was through an established lender, but the phone number she used has since blocked her calls.
