Here is a brief summary of all things crime that happened in and around Gillette yesterday, obtained through law enforcement reports from the Gillette Police Department (GPD) and the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).

Destruction of property, Dec. 13, Lakeway Rd, CCSO

An 11-year-old male was cited for destruction of property at Paintbrush Elementary on Lakeway Road around 11:55 a.m. Monday after he damaged walls, carpets, and school supplies, according to Campbell County Undersheriff Quentin Reynolds. The damage was estimated to be under $1,000 and the boy’s mother was given a copy of the citation.

Theft, Dec. 13, Fairview Rd, CCSO

Approximately $7,000 worth of 1” copper wire was reportedly stolen from a trailer that was stored at a scoria pit off of Fairview Road, Reynolds said, adding that the incident was reported by a 59-year-old male employee of Quality AG and Construction around 1:50 p.m. yesterday. The wire was last seen three weeks ago, and the investigation is ongoing.

Fraud, Dec. 13, Apricot St, GPD

A 68-year-old male called the police yesterday at 3:20 p.m. to report nearly falling victim to a computer scam where the suspects reportedly attempted to get his bank account information while posing as remote computer servicemen, according to GPD Lt. Brent Wasson. The suspects transferred $15,000 from the male’s savings account into his checking and tried to get him to make a $15,000 payment for their…
