GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Local police departments are warning about scammers impersonating police charity organizations.
An Action 2 News viewer told Consumer First Alert that she gets a dozen or more calls per day. She says the scammers use aggressive tactics asking for money.
“I can’t believe they are legitimate with the way they are harassing me,” the viewer says. “They could be hurting legitimate fundraising.
Oshkosh Police say they’re investigating a phone scam impersonating their police charity organization. A person reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be with the Oshkosh Police Benevolent Association asking for a donation. The scammer became very aggressive.
Oshkosh Police Benevolent Association is involved in charitable activities, but they do not raise money through aggressive phone calls.
Neenah Police also shared a warning on Facebook about scammers pretending to be with the Neenah Police Benevolent Association. Listen closely because Neenah Police say they hire an outside company called Encore Production for a concert fundraiser. However, they haven’t started making calls yet.
Neenah Police say they send pledges in the mail before they start making calls. They do not ask for credit card information or banking information over the phone. Never give that information away.

- Let them leave a voicemail.
- Listen to the name of the organization.
- Look them up on the Better Business Bureau or charitynavigator.org
