There’s been an uptick in scam attempts lately reported by Buena Vista County residents.

In addition to false relatives claiming they are in jail and need bail money, other types of scam attempts include threatening that someone will be arrested by the federal government or sheriff’s office if they do not pay a certain amount, and false IRS and Border Patrol Agents.
If residents suspect they are being targeted for a scam, they are urged to not give out personal information, or provide money, prepaid money cards, Amazon cards, etc.
