Photos Morphed To Recover 3.5k Loan, Police Lens On App | Aurangabad News

Aurangabad: The cyber cell of the Aurangabad rural police has registered a case against an app offering instant loans after some recovery agents allegedly morphed photographs of a man (26) and circulated it among his contacts in a bid to recover Rs3,500 that he had borrowed.
The police complaint lodged by the man, a resident of Bidkin area and a private employee by profession, stated that he had on March 17 received a link for instant loan. He was in need of money and took the loan at a hefty 30% interest rate.
A police officer said, “The suspects wanted him to pay the loan amount on a weekly basis. But due to his deteriorating financial conditions, he could not pay the installment on time. Following this, the suspects, who had got access to all the contacts of the man and other data at the time of installing the application, started sending messages to his acquaintances.”
This was followed by the suspects morphing the man’s photo with that of a pornographic actor and started sending those photograhs to his contacts, including his brother. Perturbed by the harassment, he reached out to the rural cyber police station, following which an offence has been registered under relevant sections of Information and Technology Act.
Superintendent of police Nimit Goyal has expressed concerns over the rising number of cases, wherein people were falling prey to the instant loan app traps, popularly known as Chinese loan scam.
