On BJP’s classroom ‘scam’ charge, Lokayukta seeks Delhi chief secy’s reply; AAP govt says ‘will come out clean’

New Delhi: Two years after BJP MP Manoj Tiwari alleged irregularities in the construction of classrooms in Delhi government schools, Lokayukta on Friday sought Chief Secretary‘s reply over the matter.

Lokayukta Justice Harish Chandra Mishra asked the Chief Secretary of the Delhi government to launch an enquiry over the matter and furnish response of the department concerned by October. He also directed for sending the complaint and related affidavit to the Chief Secretary.

Tiwari, northeast Delhi BJP MP, had in 2019 filed a complaint with Lokayukta alleging financial irregularities in in the construction of the additional classrooms in the schools run by Delhi government’s Education department in various parts of the city.

The BJP MP, who was present in Lokayukta court for a hearing in his complaint, said “Lokayukta has asked the chief secretary of Delhi government for an enquiry and furnish the report by October.”

The Delhi government welcomed the Lokayukta’s order seeking its response on the issue and alleged the BJP MP’s complaint is “completely baseless and false”.

“Earlier too, the ACB, Delhi Police, CBI, ED, have investigated our projects. We have always come out with a clean chit. The complaint furnished to the Lokayukta is completely baseless and false, we are confident that we’ll come out clean this time too,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government said in a statement.

The next hearing in the matter will be held on October 20.
