North Delta Crime Beat: Request for grandaughter’s bail a fraud

Nov. 21, 6800 Block of Nicholson Road: Complainant reported an attempted break and enter to a storage unit in the parking garage. Photographs of the damage were provided by the complainant who indicated they were reporting for information purposes only.

Nov. 21, Public Safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported they had been scammed through a job ad on Facebook and had communicated through an encrypted app called Telegram. The company assigned the complainant various tasks but required a cryptocurrency exchange of $3,000 with a promise to return the funds. When a further $5,000 was requested the complainant attempted to get their money back was denied. Police advised the complainant that investigative avenues are limited as cryptocurrency and an encrypted app were used. File concluded.

Nov. 22, Public safety Building 11375 84th Ave.: Complainant reported to police that an unknown person in Markham, Ontario had ordered a credit card in their name. The complainant informed the bank and Equifax of the fraudulent situation. Police advised the complaint to make sure their passwords are secure and provided them with a police file number.
