Fearful of crime involving child, man falls for online scam: Highland Heights Police Blotter

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ohio

General assistance: Stanwell Drive

A man, 44, reported Dec. 2 that he was being extorted out of money online after having a conversation on Facebook that became sexual in nature.

He said he sent the supposed woman photos of his private parts and she then said she was a child and that she would report him if he did not pay $70,000.

The man subsequently sent $1,800 before realizing he was being scammed.

Suspicion: Barkston Drive

A woman reported to the resource officer at Millridge Elementary School Nov. 30 that she had found a suspicious phone number on her son’s phone.

Officers learned that the number belonged to a friend that the boy does online gaming with. A name was located and provided to the mother.

Fraud: Locklie Drive

A resident reported Nov. 30 that three checks from her bank account were fraudulently cashed for $100 each. She said the check numbers did not match checks that were issued to her. Her bank is investigating.

Suspicious person: Wilson Mills Road

A caller said Dec. 1 that someone was sleeping in a tent in the back yard of a home where construction work was being done.

Officers learned that the person in the tent was a nephew of the homeowners who was preparing for an audition on a wilderness TV show.

Theft from auto: Millridge Road

A resident reported Dec. 1 that his unlocked vehicle had been entered overnight, and his wallet and backpack were stolen. The incident is under investigation.
