Bhopal: All the Congress MPs and members of the party’ s highest decision making bodies – Congress Working Committee (CWC)- would accompany party leader Rahul Gandhi from All India Congress Committee (AICC) to the office of Enforcement Directorate (ED), where he would be going on Monday in response to a summons by the ED.
Informing this at a press conference here, senior party leader Digvijaya Singh accused the central government of proceeding against party president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case without any substantial charge against them under its policy to act against political rivals to settle scores with them and bring them under pressure.
He said that there is no FIR in regard to the alleged scam involving Associated Journal Ltd. the company which ran the newspaper National Herald, and both the Election Commission of India and Enforcement Directorate in the past had dismissed complaints over Congress party giving a loan of Rs 90 crore to Associated Journal during the period 2002 to 2011, which is now being touted as a scam. More than Rs 67 crore of the amount was spent on payment to employees of the newspaper under VRS before closing the newspaper, he said.
Singh said that there is no crime in a political party lending money to a company closely associated with the party and it has been clearly shown in the accounts of the Congress party, which was presented to the Election Commission of India.
